Ravinia Festival Poster Design Competition 2013(Deadline: November 28, 2012)

Theme/ Direction

Ideal Themes:

  • Ravinia Steans Music Institute’s 25th Aniversary especially incorporating the numerical 25
  • Descriptive images of the Fesival experience conveying the pleasure of listening to all types of music in a beautiful park, under the stars during the summer.

Since Highland park is a suburb of Chicago, designs should NOT include the Chicago city skyline or other iconic Chicago Landmarks.

General Information

  • All student participants may submit only one entry.
  • Entires due no later than Wednesday, November 28, 2012 to:

  • Judging is on the basis of graphics and design quality and will take place on Monday, December 3, 2012. The winners will be notified over the following week. If modifications are requested, it is recommended that the student work with a faculty advisor and the printer.
  • Winner must accept the responsibility of having camera-ready artwork for the printer NO LATER than December 20th and is required to sign an agreement that transfers ownership of the design to Ravinia Festival in total or in part.
  • all winners receiving monetary compensation must submit a w-9 form in order to receive cash reward.

Note: Students should attach their personal nformation on the reverse side of their entries and arrange pick-up at the Ravinia Festival (847-266-5045) no later than Friday, Febuary 1st, 2013. If notification is not received by that time, all artwork becomes property of Ravinia.

Requirements/Specifications

Entry size:

  • Entry design should be 9″ x 13.5″ vertical format printed on  11″ x 17″ paper.
  • Layout should be tight, comprehensive design of professional quality.
  • Text: Ravinia or Ravinia Festival; Highland Park, IL Summer 2013, Ravinia Steans Music Institute
  • May have bleed edges.
  • May be multicolor rendering to print in six colors total: four-color process+ PMS+ varnish or five flat colors+ varnish.
  • No foil stamping or engraving.
  • Artwork or dis file must be suitable for scanning and/or digital reproduction.
  • NOTE!  Final output size of the poster is 24″ x 36″. Please keep in mind that the original art will need t be high-resolution (at least 300 dpi) in order to scale up to the final size.
  • Must be printable with sheet-fed offset printer.
  • Entry should be mounted for possible public display.

Lack of adequate identification may prevent notification of the winner or return of the entry. No name or school identification should appear on the front of the entry.

  • Coated or uncoated 80 lb. cover stock
  • additional text below the design in small print

Final color determination and details are subject to review and possible modification by a representative of the Women’s Board.

Proof of Student Enrollment

Each entry must include a copy of the current student ID in order to be considered for the competition.

Submissions without proof of student enrollment will not be considered for award.

1st prize: $1,000

2nd prize: $500

3rd prize:$250

Winner’s Faculty Advisor:$500

2 Honorable Mentions

The 1st prize winner will receive city-wide visibility. All winning designs may also be used on the cover of the summer program book and other products. Representatives of Ravinia Gifts may select other designs for use on products such as sweatshirts or mugs. In such cases, contact and financial arrangements will be made on an individual basis.
