The Design Loop

I am seeking a part time graphic designer to help with a diverse range of high profile creative work. My small marketing and creative company serves an exciting base of clientele, mostly in the worlds of hospitality and real estate, and produces print and digital work ranging from basic Flash and HTML to direct mail campaigns, some simple collateral pieces, large format signage, and high-exposure print advertising.

This job offers a very flexible schedule, and will require 15-20 hours per week at $11 per hour. Our office is in my home near the Chicago Avenue Blue Line stop, but is comfortably professional and distinctly separate from my living areas. I like to keep the team in our office very diverse in style and skill set; I think the best way to grow as a designer is to be surrounded by other creative people and share ideas and approches. You will work as a part of a small team, but will need to be a self-starter and feel passionate about your work.

You will need to have a passion for interesting design as well as a grasp on Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Additional skills in Flash and HTML are beneficial! Our clients constantly create opportunities for us to grow and learn since the projects that land in our office are always different and original. Accordingly, you can have any variety of skills as long as you’re also excited about growing and developing your creative vision and technical skill.

This role is probably a great fit for someone with an alternative situation — a student, a stay-at-home parent who needs to get out for a few hours each week, someone looking to break into the graphic design career they studied for, etc.

Send me some samples of your work and let me know your situation. If it seems like a fit, we can meet for coffee.

Graphic Designer (West Loop)

Walker Sands Digital is looking for a versatile, passionate designer for an entry-level position working with our team on a diverse slate of projects, from basic photo editing to creating original infographics from scratch.

• Creating original web design concepts for clients (just Photoshop mockups–no front-end development required, though HTML/CSS abilities are a plus)

• Supporting the entire web design and development process by generating/editing photos and graphics as needed

• Working with public relations account teams on infographics, presentations, etc.

• Understanding (and continuing to develop) the Walker Sands brand, and working on any and all materials (print pieces, trade show stuff) we use to continue marketing our agency

• Being open-minded and versatile enough to problem solve and help out with any and all miscellaneous design-related projects

You need. . .

• An awesome graphic design portfolio, in both printed and online form, that shows your skills with typography, layouts, imagery, etc.

• High-level technical skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign (familiarity with other Creative Suite apps like After Effects or Flash is a plus, but not at all required)

• A very keen eye for visual detail

• An understanding of web design–we don’t need you to write any code, but please do show that you get the basics, and take an interest in technology and digital/web culture

• An open mind when it comes to taking on a bunch of random projects, and the ability to use ingenuity and/or Google to “figure it out” when you don’t immediately understand how to do something¬¬
Experience-wise, a year or two of design work is good to see, but we’re also open to meeting with recent grads or other less experienced folks, as long as you have a stellar portfolio and a fun attitude. Walker Sands offers an informal, collaborative atmosphere, and we’re looking to hire someone with not only awesome professional skills, but also a personality that fits.

Please send us your resume, your portfolio, (a link to it, preferably) and any additional info/links that you think will help us see your work or get to know you better. Send email with the subject line “I’M A DESIGNER.”
